Cognitive vs Behaviorism and IT(Pacific Time Blog Accepted 07-10-09, at midnight)

I learned not to get upset over IT issues related to this course. I learned that I am reponsible for this course and for what does and does not happen. I realized that I don't particularly advocate the theories of "Behaviorism and Cognitivism." Within, the last ten days, you'd think I did because I, sort of, expected my EDT 630 teacher, to act upon me and my technology issues, that I'm having with this course. That's what I learned from this past assignment, what Behaviorism is. It also involves a lot of memorization. IT can aid in drills and practice.

Cognitivism, on the other hand, I learned is where students apply rules and learning is acknowledged, when the students think like the teacher or texts or IT software. EDT 630, is far beyond these two modes of learning theories.

For awhile, an entire week, I behaved as if I were a baby/toddler or elementary student, that needed to be mindlessly "acted upon," almost as if learning comes from the outside of an individual versus from the inside or internal workings/thinking/problem solving and involvement of the students. Due to frustration, I refusesd to participate and from the first day of the class, you said "participate, participate, participate!"

Dr. Wang allows her students to teach each other, which is more in line with Constructivism and Social Constructivism. I learned that my fellow classmates have ben challenged, too, yet they continued to progress and be responsible for their own learning.

I learned that my classmates, really did a great job, distinguishing between the two learning theories and the IT applications of them. Many of my classmates believe that teachers have to start off with Cognitivism and Behavorism or use them to remediate students gaps in learning. They believed that advance instruction/learning theories are needed for real learning, where ownership and independence from a teacher, is possible.

I also learned a lot from the Affordance Analysis assignment. My classmates really aided me in clarifying and distinguishing between a Tutorial and Human Teacher. They helped me the most in improving my lesson plan, especially Lenesha Barabino-Moyegun. She helped me to make it more detailed, so that others could understand it better. I think that most of the class understood this assignment, very well. We were/are beginning to catch (on). Why it has taken so long...I just don't know.
